Indian market has the potential of generating big revenues as the markets are greatly diversified here. Apart from other means, Bulk SMS plays a significant role in carrying out the business processes since SMS is an inexpensive, easy and silent mode of communication. Young India communicates extensively through SMS. Businesses use SMS as a cost effective and universally understandable communication medium. But on the flip side subscribers & businesses have also abused this mode of communication and subsequently TRAI is getting some 40,000 complaints about telemarketers each month.

Last month, 72,000 phone connections of registered telemarketers and more than 118,000 of those of unregistered firms were getting disconnected for calling even do-not-call registered subscribers. Given the huge market space, the volumes of calls and SMSes being exchanged have become a cause of anxiety for the authorities and consumers receiving the Unsolicited Communications. The vain and confusing attempt of changing the names of the policies or putting unnecessary restrictions by the authorities is disabling the genuine users to use the Alert Messaging which is drawing the ire of the users, businesses and even political parties.

“The government wishes to curb the endless and disruptive flow of messages, but instead of addressing the source of the problem, they are imposing limitations on the public. This goes against the basic rights of an individual.” - Aaditya Thackeray, Shiv Sena.

Majority of us will be in agreement to the statement.

In the latest move of capping 200 SMS Per Day per SIM, it has left the youth to wonder how to communicate simultaneously with all the friends. Instead of creating the mess, whole thing should be simplified and violations with respect to the guidelines should be treated with the iron hand or else to avoid all the chaos the users will retort to International SMS Gateways which in turn will create more nuisances and will increase abuse significantly.

We completely agree that the intentions of the TRAI are really good but they are loaded with seamless flaws and this attempt to curb the nuisance of Unsolicited SMS is killing all the convenience of this inexpensive, easy and silent mode of communication.
